"GUYS, it's not that serious" is a series of illustrations that reflect my personal underlying anxiety about the state of the world.
At the end of 2024, I was overwhelmed by the bad news flooding my social media feed and my constant need to be updated, the never-ending stream of online content, the violence everywhere, and of course, the planet literally on fire. It left me feeling completely helpless.
During the Christmas break, I took a step back from the screens and started thinking about how to express all these feelings without adding to the negativity. I decided to portray it in the same way I deal with any problems I'm faced with- with gen z sarcastic humour.
My hope with this series is simple: I want to bring a little lightness into the world. Make someone chuckle and go 'oh boy, ain't that the truth' before going back to their daily routines.
As I stepped away from the screens to develop this concept, I did the same for the method I used to create the illustrations. From drawings in my sketchbook, I picked a few finals pieces, and only then proceeded to digitalize them and colour them in.
For the type, I wanted to play! Try something new.
And so, I bought some plasticine and had a go. It was quite fun actually!
Once I had the letters, I photographed those individually, popped them into Photoshop and arranged them to form the title of these series.
